How to bring the collage to life in your own room

The collage has finally arrived! Now you use these great images and appealing themes to make your own four walls look much better. And of course, you are free to decide on how to arrange the pictures to suit your own taste.

Whatever your final arrangement will be, the way you fix every individual photo on your wall is important. If you have ever thought about doing that you’ll know there are several methods to choose from. Some of these are particularly quick, easy, and simple, while others are much more time-consuming and sophisticated. In the following, we present some tips and tricks that you might find useful in arranging your collage on the wall.

But first, let’s consider some necessary preparatory steps that will help you enjoy your new collage for as long as possible.

Fixing a collage to the wall – before you start:

The photos are high-quality prints. Make sure you touch the photos only with clean hands and not at the center but at the edges only. This helps avoid visible traces and fingerprints on the glossy surface.

The wall to which you want to attach the photos should be as clean as possible. Dirty walls, or a damp surface, may not only ruin the photo as such, it might not even be possible to fix the image in a way that it holds properly.

Poster strips and adhesive tape – the quick and easy solution

The easiest way to attach your new photos is to use adhesives that can be removed later. This way, you can still choose another place for your photos later on.

There is a relatively large range of adhesives to choose from: there are double-sided adhesive strips that stick to the photo and the wall at the same time, or you can also use poster putty. The putty will usually not leave any traces on the wall or on the photo, can be removed with ease, and holds really tight. Various manufacturers call the putty they offer ‘poster tac’.

When using adhesive strips, make sure that you attach them in the corners, at the center of all four sides, and in the middle of the photo. Just attaching them in the corners can mean that moisture and air get behind the photo, which might damage it or cause it to come off the wall. Whether you use adhesive strips or poster putty, always attach the strips or the putty to the photo first. Then fix the photo’s top corners to the wall before you press on the middle spots left and right and finally the bottom corners.

The right mixture of photos – finishing touches

To make the collage on your wall come to life, the arrangement should be as varied as possible. Combine the different motifs and let the photos partly overlap to create a work of art on your space the way you imagine it to be.

Between you and me: that does not always work perfectly the first time you try it. You will need to rearrange some photos, but if you take your time, you will then end up with a unique collage, an expression of who you are, your character, and your mood. Enjoy!
